In this role, you’ll maintain the high standards of patient care set forth by the California Nurse Practice Act, while directly supporting the missions of both our Patient Care Services and Perioperative Services Divisions. You will support the Cardiac Cath Lab mission and participate in the continuous quality improvement process. Share responsibility in the acquisition and processing of state-of-the-art imaging and efficient operation of equipment in the interventional labs. Maintain adequate levels of inventory in assigned procedure and restocks inventories as needed. Operates appropriate medical equipment and interacts professionally with customers and staff. Performs other duties as assigned that do not violate laws or regulations that require personnel with special licensure.
ABOUT HOAG HEALTH SYSTEM’S CATHETERIZATION LABS Hoag’s Cath Lab
Hoag’s Heart & Vascular Institute is home to eight cardiac catheterization labs (cath lab); six at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and two at Hoag Hospital Irvine. A cath lab is where physicians can diagnose or treat heart conditions, such as cardiac arrhythmias, through a less-invasive catheter procedure instead of surgery.
Electrophysiology Cath Lab Suite
State-of-the-Art EP Cath Lab Suite – First of its kind in Orange County!
12,740 square-foot unit including 12 new pre-and post-procedure beds.
This is the first Electrophysiology (EP) Cath Lab Suite installation to offer the complete integration of leading-edge EP technology with a special focus on arrhythmia management, to treat conditions such as atrial fibrillation. This progressive technology enables Hoag physicians and clinicians to thoroughly evaluate and diagnose a full spectrum of cardiovascular diseases, as well as provide the latest in state-of-the-art treatment options. The integration of these elements achieves the highest level of efficiency and safety for the patient to support the best possible outcomes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enters the Cardiac Cath Lab with experience in interventional cardiovascular procedures eager to advance in a highly technical and challenging work environment.
- Use departmental and Organization resources appropriately.
- Is competent in left heart hemodynamic and physiological measurement recording on the current system.
- Proven competencies in rhythm and dysrhythmia recognition (ACLS current).
- Ability to operate multiple specialized modalities to include, but not limited to, pressure transducers, blood oximetry, and thermodilution cardiac output.
- Setup of dedicated equipment for physiological coronary flow reserve, intravascular and intracardiac ultrasound, pressure injectors, atherectomy systems, and thrombus extraction devices.
- Scrub assist advances to interventional procedures to include; coronary and endovascular stents, electrophysiology/ablation;
- Pacemaker and defibrillator generator implants and intra-atrial occlusion device implants.
- Assists with daily inventory scanning of patient encounters to the web-based tracking system.
- Standby/on-call required with a 30- minute response time requirement.
- Use departmental and Organization resources appropriately.
- Maintain attendance according to hospital policy and procedure.
- Record time and attendance accurately and timely.
Education Training & Experience
- All departments: AssocAssociate’see or higher. Graduate of an ARRT-approved Radiologic Technology program is required.
- For the Interventional Radiology department only – 5 years continuous hospital experience in special procedures/interventional radiology or equivalent. Performs all routine and advanced spprocedurescedure and interventional radiology exams. Acts as a lead technologist with responsibilities including exam flow coordination, scheduling, supply ordering and tracking, equipment quality control, exam charging, orientation and training of new employees and service recovery. Completes two (2) units of mandatory stroke specific training/education annually as required.
- Cardiology department only – Experience must include right and left hemodynamic monitoring, using a laser for procedures, and performing all (HVI/Radiology) procedures.
License Required
- California State Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) License (CRTXR) and Fluoroscopy License (CRTFL)
Certifications Required
- AHA BLS Certification (BLS)
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Radiology certification (RTR)
Certifications Preferred
Interventional Radiology department only:
- ARRT post-primary certification in Vascular Interventional (VI) Radiography
Cardiology departments only:
- ARRT post-primary certification in CV Interventional, Cardiovascular Interventional
